WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION FOCUS QUESTIONS

How is the US addressing the concern of weapons of mass destruction?

• What is the foreign policy objective(s) in this area of concern?
• What is the US position on the use of nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons of mass destruction?
• How has the US attempted to limit the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction? Specifically, what policies and actions has the US taken in South Asia (India and Pakistan), North Korea, and Iran?
• How has the US worked with international organizations to achieve its foreign policy objectives?

Now that you have answered the previous questions:

Evaluate the effectiveness of US policies, choices or actions in this area of concern.

TERRORISM FOCUS QUESTIONS

How is the US addressing the concern of terrorism?

• What are U.S. objectives in this area?
• How has the terrorist attack on 9/11 affected US policies about national security at home and abroad?
• Has the war in Iraq affected terrorism in the world?
• How has the US worked with international organizations to achieve its foreign policy objectives?

Now that you have answered the previous questions:

FOREIGN AID FOCUS QUESTIONS

How is the US addressing issues of foreign aid to support developing nations?

• What are the US objectives for providing aid to developing nations?
• What types of foreign aid are available to foreign nations?
• How has US foreign aid supported the government, economy, and/or people of Darfur, Ethiopia, Colombia, Mexico, Bangladesh, and/or other developing nations? Choose 3.
• How has the US worked with international organizations to achieve its foreign policy objectives?

ENERGY SUPPLY FOCUS QUESTIONS

How is the US addressing the dwindling energy supply?

• What are the US objectives in securing a large and stable energy supply?

• How has the US demand for energy affected its relationships with foreign oil producing nations like Venezuela, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, etc?
• How has the US worked with international organizations to achieve its foreign policy objectives?

ENVIRONMENT FOCUS QUESTIONS

How is the US addressing worldwide environmental concerns?

• What are the US objectives in ensuring that our planet is not environmentally degraded to a point of no return?
• What types of policies has the US put in place to ensure the protection of the environment?
• How does the US worked with other nations such as the European Union, Brazil, China, India and Japan to protect the environment?
• How has the US approached treaties like the Kyoto Accords for climate change, about fishing rights and the continued destruction of the rain forest?
• How has the US worked with international organizations to achieve its foreign policy objectives?
